Prof D. G. McCartney is presently Professor of Materials Processing in the Department of Mechanical,...Prof D. G. McCartney is presently Professor of Materials Processing in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nottingham. He obtained a first class honours degree in Metallurgy from the University of Oxford and also obtained a DPhil from Oxford for research on solidification. He has been an academic staff member at Nottingham since 1992 and a professor since 1999. His research interests include surface engineering, thermal spraying, powder manufacture by gas atomisation, the metallurgy of welding in superalloys and additive manufacture of supearlloy aeroengine components.
